Low-Scoring First Half Leads To Roughnecks Home Loss
Calgary, AB - A slow start offensively proved too much to overcome for the Calgary Roughnecks on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome, as the Riggers scored a season-low seven goals versus the visiting Toronto Rock.
Curtis Dickson was the only Calgary player who managed to find the back of the net after two quarters, as the veteran forward fired a pair of shots behind Toronto's Nick Rose. The Rock, meanwhile, had four different first-half scorers as they headed to the dressing room leading 6-2.
The Roughnecks' two goals in the opening 30 minutes tied a Calgary record which was first set on Apr. 2, 2010, versus the same Toronto squad.
Calgary's valiant second-half effort eventually came up short despite Dickson recording a fourth-quarter hat-trick for a five-point outing. In addition, teammate Jeff Shattler finished the game with five assists.
As for the Rock, Tom Schreiber posted three goals to go along with three assists to lead the visitors attack in their 11-7 victory.
Frank Scigliano got the start in net for the home side, making 28 saves on 38 shots. Just after the final frame began, Christian Bel Bianco came in to relive Scigliano and saved all eight shots he faced.
Week 8 of the 2017 NLL season sees the Roughnecks (3-3) wrap up a four-game homestand when the Vancouver Stealth (2-4) visit the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday, Feb. 18, for Fan Appreciation presented by Vision Travel. The 7:00 p.m. match-up will see fans have the chance to win a number of prizes including a Vision Travel package.
Roughnecks single game tickets are available at Ticketmaster and the Scotiabank Saddledome box office for as low as $39 for adults, $28 for students and $22 for children (plus applicable fees).
