LouCity Partners to Host Combine; Registration Open Now

December 16, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release

The Jan. 29-31 event will be held in front of technical staff and a player agency seeking talent.

In lieu of a traditional open tryout ahead of the 2021 season, Louisville City FC has partnered with Ottawa Pro Sports Management to host a combine next month as a stop on OPSM's "Become Elite: Undiscovered Tour."

Participants will showcase their skills in front of LouCity's technical staff and members of the OPSM agency from Jan. 29-31 at Louisville's new soccer training facility at Champions Park, about two miles east of Lynn Family Stadium.

Registration is open now at opsmpro.com, and applicants are advised that COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed at the combine.

"This will provide us a good opportunity to evaluate players from all over the country at our new training ground," said Danny Cruz, LouCity's assistant coach and technical director. "In hosting this combine, we believe that players will be put in a position to perform well and in turn try to earn an invitation into preseason with our first team.

"We take these events seriously here at Louisville City given a history of discovering players through tryouts. Look no further than Kyle Smith, Luke Spencer and Oscar Jimenez - all who have had a huge impact on the success of this club."

Canada-based OPSM, which is also looking to acquire clients from the combine, bills itself as the benchmark agency for players needing a platform and resources to become top-level performers. In recent years, athletes managed by OPSM have earned professional contracts playing not just in North America but also Europe, Asia and Australia.

Jeff Addai, who co-founded OPSM with his brother, Godwin, doubles as the agency's chief scout while continuing his own international playing career.

"We call this the Undiscovered Tour because we've been coming across many players who are at such a high level that they can enter the pro game," Addai said. "Our biggest thing is seeing these players perform in person to prove themselves. We believe there's no better stage than Louisville, which has always been at the top of the USL ranks. Partnering with Louisville on this event gives us a great opportunity to find some overlooked talent."

The combine will include a welcome seminar and opportunity for each participant to appear in multiple matches over the weekend. OPSM has also partnered with presenting sponsor Player Portals, an emerging networking hub for soccer players.

Through the combine, LouCity is looking to improve on the core of a roster that, as of this week, includes 18 players who had their options exercised, re-signed with the club or newly signed for 2021. The boys in purple have appeared in six consecutive Eastern Conference Finals since the franchise began play, hoisting USL Cups in 2017 and 2018.
