Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Monday night's match-up between the Lookouts and Smokies was a departure from the lopsided finishes displayed in the previous two games between the two clubs in the homestand. Nathan Eovaldi pitched a gem of a game to lead the Lookouts to a 2-1 victory at AT&T Field.
Chattanooga entered the scoreboard first in the second inning. Alfredo Silverio led off with a single but was the victim of a force out on a subsequent ground out by Brian Cavazos-Galvez. Jaime Pedroza followed with a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error to first by pitcher Christopher Rusin (1-1) put runners on the corners. Wilberto Ortiz then ripped a single to bring home Cavazos-Galvez, putting the Lookouts ahead, 1-0.
With both offenses playing tepidly, it was not until the bottom of the sixth until another run was scored. Scott Van Slyke led off for the Lookouts with a double. After a Silverio pop out, Cavazos-Galvez singled to push Van Slyke to third. Pedroza then hit a ball to Rusin, who proceeded to throw out Van Slyke at home on the play. With men on first on a second, Cavazos-Galvez aggressively attempted to steal third, which resulted in an errant throw by catcher Blake Lalli and Cavazos-Galvez scampering home.
On the mound, Lookouts starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (3-1) dominated the Smokies. He went six stellar innings, yielding just two hits and one walk, while striking out eight. The opportunistic Smokies, however, waited until Eovaldi exited the game to score their first run of the game.
The newest addition to the Lookouts' roster, relief pitcher Steven Ames, made his debut in the eighth inning for Chattanooga. He was immediately greeted by a double from Jae-Hoon Ha. Ryan Flaherty continued the Ames' welcoming party with an RBI single to put the score at 2-1. Ames would settle down by inducing a double play and ground out to quell any further damage.
Josh Lindblom closed the door on the Smokies by striking out the side in the ninth to notch his seventh save of the season.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Tennessee Smokies will continue their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
