Hoover, AL - Travis Denker and Corey Smith each collected three hits as the Chattanooga Lookouts (28-19, 63-54) edged the Birmingham Barons (18-30, 58-60), 4-2, Friday night in front of 3,890 fans at Chattanooga's AT&T Park.

In the top of the first inning Brandon Short lined a two-out double to right field and raced home on Jon Gilmore's RBI single as the Barons took an early one-run lead, 1-0.

Birmingham added to its advantage in the top of the second inning when Jason Bour doubled to left field before Greg Paiml added a RBI single to right field as the Barons' made the score 2-0.

Alex Castellanos lined a leadoff triple in the bottom of the fourth inning and trotted home on Denker's RBI single to right field as the Lookouts cut their deficit in half, 2-1.

The Lookouts took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning when Castellanos collected a leadoff double to left field and was knocked home on Smith's RBI single to center field. Brian Cavazos-Galvez plated Smith on a RBI double to center field for the second run of the inning.

Ethan Martin (3-2) earned the victory for the Lookouts when the reliever pitched 3.0 scoreless IP with 2 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Shawn Tolleson (S, 8) registered the save after he threw 1.0 scoreless IP with one hit and two strikeouts. Mike Antonini

Charlie Leesman (8-6) suffered the defeat for the Barons as the southpaw tossed 6.0 IP with three earned runs on nine hits and four strikeouts.

Birmingham and Chattanooga continue their five-game series with game four on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 6:15 p.m. (CDT) at Chattanooga's AT&T Park. The Barons have yet to name a starter for tomorrow's game while the Lookouts hand the ball to right-hander Christ Withrhow (3-6, 4.25).
