Loggers sign four returners to 2019 contracts

December 4, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods) - La Crosse Loggers News Release

La Crosse, Wis. - The La Crosse Loggers Baseball Club is thrilled to announce the return of four players from last summer to join the 2019 roster. The first players to be announced for the upcoming Loggers season include dynamic infielders Bryce Blaum and Kyson Donahue, as well as two electric bullpen pieces in Chase Whitaker and Jon Meyerring.

Bryce Blaum is a redshirt sophomore second baseman from Texas A&M University preparing for his first eligible season as an Aggie after sitting out the 2018 campaign due to NCAA Division I transfer rules. Blaum was a key element in the Loggers success during 2018, playing in 62 games which ranked second on the club last season. The sparkplug infielder finished in the top five in six offensive categories - hits (58), doubles (7), runs scored (41), home runs (3), walks (31), and stolen bases (22) - while also leading the team in defensive assists with 144.

University of Arizona infielder Kyson Donahue prepares for his first season as a Wildcat out of Honolulu, Hawaii. Donahue is a left-handed swinging freshman that performed well in his 28 games for the Loggers, making an immediate impact at third base as he collected a six-game hit streak during his first week in a Loggers uniform. Donahue can also find himself in the record book as the 18 year old prospect became the first player born in the 21st century in Loggers franchise history.

Chase Whitaker is a 6-foot-6 right-handed pitcher attending Merced College in the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association. The sophomore reliever led Merced with a 13.79 K/9 in his freshman season, and followed up with 17 strikeouts over 15.1 innings for the Loggers in 2018. Whitaker's 1.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and .137 opponent batting average all ranked second on the 2018 staff among pitchers with at least 15 innings pitched.

Joining Whitaker once again on the Loggers pitching staff will be hard throwing left-hander Jon Meyerring from Miami University in Ohio. Meyerring was a dependable reliever all summer for the Loggers last season, leading the team in appearances (21) and strikeouts (45) while collecting three saves.

Preparing to build on a 40 win season a year ago, the Loggers are excited to have four key members of their 2018 team returning for another summer at the Lumberyard. Stay tuned for more player signings as we stare out the window waiting patiently for 2019 Loggers baseball!
