Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks and the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, announced Tuesday that they have signed forward Logan Nelson to an ECHL contract for the 2018-19 season. Nelson is the first player under contract for the upcoming season, returning to Indianapolis after finishing the 2017-18 campaign with the Fuel.

Nelson, 24, registered seven goals and 12 assists in 21 games after arriving to Indy via a trade from the Fort Wayne Komets on Feb. 22. The 6-foot-1, 209-pound forward played an integral role in the Fuel clinching their first-ever Kelly Cup Playoff berth last spring, tallying six goals and six assists over Indy's last 10 regular season games. Prior to his arrival in the Circle City, Nelson saw action in 45 contests split between Fort Wayne, the Orlando Solar Bears and the Norfolk Admirals, picking up a total of three goals and 13 assists.

"We're excited to have Logan back in the fold for the upcoming season, and we expect him to do what he did when he arrived last season," Fuel Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations Bernie John said. "He's a guy who plays a 200-foot game, contribute offensively with his skill while using his size to be physical all over the ice."

Through four seasons in the ECHL, Nelson has accumulated 117 points (51g, 66a) and 180 penalty minutes in 212 total games. Since entering the league in 2014-15 with the Quad City Mallards, the native of Rogers, Minn. has skated for seven different teams, setting a career high mark with his 35 points last season. Prior to becoming a professional, Nelson spent three seasons with the Victoria Royals in the Western Hockey League, where he put up 159 points (60g, 99a) in 179 games played. A fifth-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (No. 133 overall), Nelson ranked amongst the Royals' top five point scorers in two of his three seasons with the club, eclipsing the 50-point mark in 2011-12 and 2013-14.
