Lincoln Named IL Pitcher of Week
June 9, 2014 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, PA) - Lehigh Valley RHP Brad Lincoln was named International League Pitcher of the Week for June 2-8, as announced earlier today. During the period, the 29-year-old Lincoln tossed 13.0 scoreless innings -- going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts (13.0 ip, 4 h, 0 r, 4 bb, 12 k).
Making the Lake Jackson, Texas, native's statistics even more impressive is the fact that his two victories came against two of the IL's first-place teams, Durham (South Division) and Indianapolis (West Division).
On June 2 in Durham, Lincoln (W, 7.0 ip, 3 h, 0 r, 3 bb, 5 k) started a 3-0 shutout to help the IronPigs stave off a four-game sweep by the Bulls. The win marked his first victory as a starting pitcher since with Pittsburgh on June 23, 2012, versus Detroit. In addition, Lincoln's seven shutout innings marked the first time he tossed seven scoreless innings in a game since with Indianapolis on May 18, 2011, versus Buffalo.
On June 8 against Indianapolis, Lincoln (W, 6.0 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 1 bb, 7 k) defeated the team he made 50 starts for from 2009-12 while also extending his scoreless streak to 13.0 innings. The only hit he allowed was a two-out double by Chris McGuiness in the top of the second inning. No Indians batter reached safely following a leadoff walk drawn by Robert Andino in the top of the third inning. His seven strikeouts were a season high as well as his largest total since fanning seven Tigers in that start in Pittsburgh on June 23, 2012.
For the season, Lincoln is now 3-3 with a 4.07 ERA in 12 games, seven starts. His current 13.0 IP scoreless streak is the second longest for Lehigh Valley in 2014 behind an active 15.0 IP streak held by LHP Cesar Jimenez.
Lincoln becomes the second Lehigh Valley pitcher to win the award this season (LHP Greg Smith; April 21) and just the eighth IronPig all-time. Only Smith and RHP Justin Lehr (2009) have won the award twice.
