New York Liberty News Release

NEW YORK LIBERTY (7-18) vs. CONNECTICUT SUN (14-12)

Wednesday, August 1 - Uncasville, CT (Mohegan Sun Arena)

7:00 PM (ET) - TV: League Pass, MSG+

The New York Liberty dropped a nail-biter to the Minnesota Lynx in their last game before the All-Star break. Having lost its last four, it will to piece together a win streak, beginning at Connecticut, in a pursuit of a playoff berth.

QUICK HITS

Tina Charles' 20.2 points per game rank fifth the league, and she is one of just six players averaging 20 or more (as of 7/31).

Charles' 7.2 rebounds per game slot her 10th in the league (as of 7/31).

Kia Nurse's ranks top-10 among rookies with 8.6 points per game (as of 7/31).

Brittany Boyd's 5.2 assists per contest rank fifth in the WNBA (as of 7/31).

Boyd ranks top-10 in the league in steals per game with 1.5 (as of 7/31).

Bria Hartley ranks top-15 in the league with 3.7 assists per game (as of 7/31).

Epiphanny Prince's 41.9 percent conversion rate from three would rank sixth in the WNBA, but she falls just short of qualifying (as of 7/31).

Sun rookie Lexie Brown was selected one pick before Liberty rookie Kia Nurse in the 2018 draft.

KEY MATCHUP

2018 WNBA All-Star teammates Tina Charles and Chiney Ogwumike have been standout performers in the tightly-contested Sun and Liberty season series. In those two games, Charles is averaging 21.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, while Ogwumike has notched 16.5 points and 8.5 boards per contest.

LAST MEETING

On July 11, 2018, Shavonte Zellous banked in a three at the buzzer to give the Liberty a 79-76 victory over the Sun.

The Liberty trailed by three with under 30 seconds to play before Epiphanny Prince tied the game at 76 with a corner three. A key defensive stop then paved the way for Zellous' heroics.

Tina Charles finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for New York. Chiney Ogwumike paced Connecticut with 17 points and nine boards.

ALL-STAR APPEARANCE

After exploding for 32 points and 15 rebounds against the Lynx before the break, Tina Charles made her sixth-career All-Star game appearance last Saturday. The veteran helped propel Team Parker to a 119-112 victory over Team Delle Donne, finishing with seven points and five rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

BUZZER-BEATING BLOWS

Matchups between the Liberty and Sun this season have certainly had their fair share of drama, to say the least. The two contests have been settled by a combined five points, and each ended on a game-winning buzzer-beating three. The Liberty have seen three games this season end by way of a buzzer beater, and they've been on the winning end of one of them.

ZAHUI B FOR THREE

Amanda Zahui B is coming off of a 15-point performance against the Lynx that featured a 3-of-7 clip from behind the arc, tying her career-high from deep. The fourth-year center has now drained 18 threes in 2018, eclipsing the combined total from her first three WNBA seasons.

DISHIN' THE ROCK

The Liberty finished with 23 assists against the Lynx, the most since their 27-assist outburst against Chicago on July 15. New York is averaging 21.2 helpers per game over their past six; that pass-heavy movement has been spearheaded by Brittany Boyd, who has notched 7.2 assists per game over that span.
