Let Paul Molitor Ignite Your Winter

December 22, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL) - Beloit Snappers News Release

BELOIT, WI- The Beloit Professional Baseball Association, Inc. will begin their 30th season of baseball by hosting the seventh annual Winter Hot Stove Banquet presented by Miller Lite. This year's featured speaker will be baseball Hall-of-Famer Paul Molitor. The banquet will be held at the Eclipse Center in Beloit on Tuesday, January 25th with doors opening at 6pm.

Paul Molitor, a 2004 inductee to Major League Baseball's Hall-of-Fame, will make his first appearance at the Snappers annual banquet. The seven-time All-Star was a first-round (3rd overall) draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1977 Draft. He went on to play 21 seasons (15 with the Brewers) in the big leagues, amassing 3,319 hits, 234 home runs, 605 doubles, 504 stolen bases and 1,307 RBI, all while maintaining a career .306 batting average. Molitor also holds the seventh longest hitting streak in Major League Baseball history, collecting hits in 39 straight games during the 1987 season.

There are only six players in Major League history to have 3,000 hits and 500 stolen bases, Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Eddie Collins, Lou Brock, Ricky Henderson and Paul Molitor.

Nicknamed "the Igniter", he was a member of the 1993 Toronto Blue Jays that won the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies on Joe Carter's famous game-winning home run in game six off of reliever Mitch Williams. Molitor was named the World Series Most Valuable Player that year.

Molitor spent the last three seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins before retiring in 1998. From 2000-05 he served as the Twins bench coach. He is now entering his seventh season as the Twins minor league base running/infield coordinator.

The evening will also feature a silent auction of sports memorabilia and gift packages, the chance to purchase Snappers merchandise and the opportunity for fans to purchase their season tickets for 2011.

Tickets for the event are $45.00 per person, which includes dinner, two box seat ticket vouchers for an April 2011 Snappers home game and the program for the evening. If you purchase four (4) or more tickets, the rate is $40.00 per ticket. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
