Lavelle Starts as USWNT Topples England in 2020 SheBelieves Cup Opener

Orlando FL. - Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle earned a start and her 43rd international cap as the United States Women's National Team defeated England in the opening match of the 2020 SheBelieves Cup. Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan was a bench option.
Lavelle played on the right side of a midfield three, her usual position under USWNT Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski, alongside Julie Ertz and Lindsay Horan. Lavelle played a strong 70 minutes of action before being substituted for Samantha Mewis.
The match fell on the three year anniversary of Lavelle's first cap with the USWNT. Since then, the crafty midfielder has appeared in 43 matches, making 36 starts. In that time, the midfielder has scored 12 goals and earned seven assists. Lavelle's play for the US has earned her much acclaim, as she won the Bronze Ball at the 2019 World Cup and was named to the FIFPro Best XI. Lavelle was also nominated for the 2019 Ballon d'Or and 2019 US Soccer Female Player of the Year Award.
Next up for the USWNT will be SheBelieves Cup debutants Spain at Red Bull Arena in Harrison New Jersey at 5 pm ET (ESPN). Spain defeated Japan 3-1 in their opener.
