Late Homer Wrecks Hooks, Drillers Win Series
TULSA - Zach Reks belted a three-run home run with two outs in the seventh inning, lifting the Drillers to an 8-5 win over the Hooks in Tuesday night's series finale at ONEOK Field.
Corpus Christi outhit Tulsa 33 to 32 in the four-game set but the home club accounted for 10 of the 12 home runs.
The Hooks carried a 5-3 lead into the seventh with Gabriel Valdez on the hill. Consecutive two-out walks brought Reks to the plate. The slugging outfielder deposited the eighth pitch of the plate appearance into bullpen in right-center. It's the second time this season Reks has homered off Valdez.
Cristian Santana capped the four-run seventh with an RBI infield single. Reks' sac fly in the eighth accounted for Tulsa's eighth run.
Granden Goetzman gave the Hooks a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI double off knuckleballer J.D. Martin.
Tulsa scratched out a pair of runs in the home half against Brandon Bielak to pull in front.
Chas McCormick beat out an infield single to start the second. Osvaldo Duarte belted an 0-1 pitch over the fence in right for an opposite-field home run. Duarte owned both Hooks dingers in the series. Stephen Wrenn added to two-out RBI single, staking Corpus Christi to a 4-2 lead.
Cody Thomas helped Martin avoid further damage by robbing Ronnie Dawson of a three-run home run with a leaping catch in right-center.
Gavin Lux, who authored his first career multi-homer game Monday afternoon, made it a one-run contest with a lead-off clout in the third. Lux hit five home runs in the series.
Bielak bounced back by retiring nine of the final 11 men he faced, striking out five.
Corpus Christi made it a 5-3 affair in the fourth. Anibal Sierra lined a single up the middle and later scored from second base on a two-out knock by Abraham Toro.
The Hooks are off Wednesday before opening a seven-game homestand against Amarillo Thursday night. First pitch 6:15. Click Here for details on upcoming promotions at Whataburger Field.
