October 6, 2020 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
This past week the XFL announced it will return to the field for the 2022 season, the Seattle Storm set a record for most assists in a WNBA Finals Game with 33, and the Appalachian League converted to a college summer circuit for rising freshmen and sophomores with Major League Baseball ending its affiliation with the loop. Highlights from this week are from XFL, Canadian Football League, Appalachian League, Women's National Basketball Association, Major League Soccer, National Women's Soccer League, United Soccer League One, National Lacrosse League, Premier Lacrosse League, Major League Lacrosse and Major League Rugby.
The XFL announced that the league will return to the field for the 2022 season. The new ownership group and league executives are in the process of finalizing next steps for the relaunch with more details to be shared in the coming weeks and months. In August 2020, Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson and RedBird Capital Partners acquired substantially all of the assets of Alpha Entertainment LLC, the parent company of the XFL.
The announcement was made by Dany Garcia and Dwayne Johnson through this video:
Former Dallas Renegades tight end Donald Parham becomes the first XFL 2020 player to score a touchdown in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Canadian Football League

Indoor Football League
The Tucson Sugar Skulls have signed veteran defensive lineman Chris Martin for the 2021 Indoor Football League season. As a member of the Nebraska Danger in 2019, Martin led the league with 8.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for a loss en route to being named first-team All-IFL.
Major League Baseball started the process of eliminating minor league affiliates, with the Appalachian League converted to a college summer circuit for rising freshmen and sophomores. The Appalachian League had been an affiliated minor league with professional players since 1911. Hosting the top rising college freshman and sophomores, the new Appalachian League will also be an integral part of the identification and development process for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, as well as other future national teams. Participants will be selected by a steering committee composed of leaders within collegiate and professional baseball.

The Milwaukee Milkmen have announced that the contract of right-handed pitcher Peyton Gray has been purchased by the Kansas City Royals. The deal should come as no surprise to those who followed the American Association in 2020, as Gray quickly established himself as one of the most dominant arms on the circuit during his lone summer with the Milkmen. He did not allow a single run -- earned or unearned -- during the regular season with the Milkmen for a perfect 0.00 ERA. Gray locked down 14 saves among 20 games finished as the Milkmen posted a league-best 34-26 record.
Women's National Basketball Association
WNBA Most Valuable Player A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces and WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks have been unanimously selected to the 2020 All-WNBA First Team, the WNBA announced. This is the second straight Sportsmanship Award for Ogwumike, who joins Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird (2017, 2018) as the only players to earn the honor in consecutive years.
Breanna Stewart goes off and drops 37 PTS, 15 REB in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces to lead the Seattle Storm. The second most points scored in a WNBA Playoff game ever.
