Larsson Records Victory in 2018 World Juniors Debut

Larsson stops 20 of 22 in 7-2 victory for Sweden at WJC

Buffalo, NY. - Tri-City Storm goalie Filip Larsson made his 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship debut in net yesterday in a 7-2 victory for Sweden over Switzerland. Larsson started the game and stopped 20 of 22 Switzerland shots in the win. Sweden is now 3-0 in the tournament and has clinched a spot in the quarterfinal round

Larsson, is 14-4 in his first season with the Storm and currently leads the USHL in several goaltending statistics. Larsson leads the USHL this season in Wins (14), Goals Against Average (1.45), Save Percentage (.933), and Shutouts (5). His play this season has earned him USHL Goaltender of the Week honors twice. Larsson announced his commitment to Denver University on December 12th. He was drafted 167th Overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.

Sweden is 3-0 in group play heading into today's matchup vs. Russia and remains the only undefeated team at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships in Buffalo. The perfect record has locked up a spot for the team in the quarterfinal round which begins on Tuesday. Sweden has defeated Belarus, Czech Republic, and Switzerland by a combined score of 16-4. Sweden is seeking its first gold medal in the event since 2012.

The tournament is internationally televised and can be seen by viewers in the United States on the NHL Network.
