LANCERS SHUTOUT STARS, 6-0

January 27, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE -- The Omaha Lancers faced the rivaled Lincoln Stars for the third time this season Friday night. Omaha won both meetings before Friday night's game. Cam Reagan returned to the lineup after an upper-body injury that took place late December against Fargo.

Jack Randl also returned after his fighting suspension from January 12th against the Stars. The Lancers called on Zach Driscoll to play between the pipes. Driscoll has continued to play outstanding and is still ranked second in the league among all goaltenders. The Lancers also honored former captain, Scott Matzka, who is currently battling ALS. Scott was diagnosed with ALS in the fall of 2015. Matzka's foundation, "My Turn," sponsored the jerseys the Lancers wore. The jerseys all had "Matzka" on the nameplate and Scott's number on each shoulder. Due to the severity of his condition, Scott was not able to make it to Friday night's game. Scott played for the Lancers from the 1995-97 season. After his time with Omaha, Matzka, played NCAA hockey for the University of Michigan where he won a National Championship. Scott had a colorful professional career making stops in the AHL, ECHL and played overseas. The Lancer family sends Scott prayers in his battle with ALS.

After a scoreless first period, the goals and teddy bears poured onto the ice. Filip Suchy broke the tie with a power-play goal early in the second period. After Suchy's goal, the Lancers faithful tossed Teddy Bears onto the ice. All of the bears that made their way onto the ice will be brought to local charities for kids in need in the Omaha Metro area. Nearing the halfway point of the period, Mathieu De St. Phalle snuck past the defense to score on Thomas Vomacka . Nearing the end of the period, Jack Randl sniped the puck past Vomacka. Then with nineteen seconds to go and on the penalty kill, Ethan Price stole the puck in the Stars zone and scored. The Lancers lead 4-0 heading into the second period.

In the third period, Ethan Price got his second of the night on the power play. Then, in his first game back in over a month, Cam Reagan sealed the win for the Lancers, 6-0. Zach Driscoll stopped all 25 shots he faced giving him his 5th shutout of the season.

The Lancers improve to 20-10-2-0 with 42 points in the Western Conference.
