Erie Otters News Release

Buffalo, New York - The top 96 NHL Draft Prospects from all around the world had the opportunity to boost their stock during the Scouting Combine - the first running of the event since 2019.

One of just 30 Defensemen invited to the Combine, quickly-rising prospect and leading Erie Otters' defensive-scorer Christian Kyrou came into the weekend as the 48th Ranked Skating Prospect in North America. Coming into the 2021-22 season, Kyrou had not scratched the charts on any of NHL Central Scouting's Players to Watch, but after an ironman season playing 68/68 games, and being second on the team with 60 points (18G+42A), the Komoka, ON native earned his looks from scouts.

"Been pretty exciting this week, I've met a lot of new teams. It's been surreal, not a lot of people get to come here. It's...exciting" said Kyrou, "[It's been a] lot of development the past years, I worked hard. [I'm] just grateful for the opportunity I had."

The NHL Scouting Combine gives prospects the chance not just to talk more personally with potential drafted teams, but to also showcase their off-ice abilities and tangibles through a circuit-style abilities test. These tests include bench pressing, pull ups, standing long jump, and an official measuring of pre-Draft height, weight, and wingspan. Wearing the #21 shirt, Kyrou's group - which included only Ontario Hockey League players - started testing at 12:30 P.M.

Height 5'10"

Weight (lbs.) 172

Standing Long Jump 98"

Vertical Jump 16.85"

Bench Press (Watts/KG) 7.99

Pro Agility (Time in Sec.) Left: 4.44 / Right: 4.38

Pull Ups 10

Wingate (Watts/KG) 15.8

Time will tell the impact that the performance at the NHL Scouting Combine will have on Kyrou's stock - a projected second round pick - heading into the 2022 Entry Draft. Early projections showed Kyrou leading in a number of categories amongst his peers - most notably in Pro Agility, in which he had been top 5 of all prospects near the end of the day.

With on-ice performance showing as some of the best in the OHL in 2021-22, the breakout Defenseman will hope to hear his name called early during the July 7 Draft Weekend.
