KUCHAREK NAMED USHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK

MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, had defenseman Jared Kucharek named USHL Defenseman of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, December 31, the league announced on Monday.

Kucharek, 19, recorded seven points (1-67) in three games with the Capitols this last week. The 6-foot-4, 196-pound native of Jackson, Michigan, scored his first USHL goal along with three assists in Madison's 7-5 win over the Youngstown Phantoms on Thursday, December 28. In the Capitols 4-1 win over the Phantoms on Friday, December 29, Kucharek assisted on the game-winning goal. The blueliner also assisted on both power play goals in the Capitols 3-2 shootout loss to the Central Illinois Flying Aces on Sunday, December 31.

Kucharek joined the Capitols from the Omaha Lancers on Saturday, December 16. He has eight points (1-78) and two penalty minutes in 10 games this season.

In addition to Kucharek being named USHL Defenseman of the Week, Waterloo Black Hawks forward Jackson Cates was named USHL Forward of the Week, and goaltender Matej Tomek was named USHL Goaltender of the Week.

The Capitols will continue their road trip with a stop at Ice Box for a 7:35 p.m. match-up with the Lincoln Stars on Friday, January 5. Madison will return home for a $1 Beer Night at 7:05 p.m. at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena on Friday, January 12.
