Kucerik to Attend Czech National Junior Training Camp

June 8, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Saskatoon Blades News Release

SASKATOON, SK - Radek Kucerik is one step closer to returning to the World Juniors.

The burly defender has received an invite to the Czech Republic's national U20 training camp, and will skate among his native country's top junior players from June 14-19.

Kucerik, who made his World U12 Junior Championship debut last December, is one of 32 players to receive invites. Of those 32, nine are representing the WHL, including Matej Toman of the Swift Current Broncos, Michael Teply of Winnipeg, and Martin Lang of the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Kucerik has a well-established history wearing Czech colours on the international stage. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound rearguard made his country's debut in U16 international play. He's also helped Team Czech capture bronze at the World U17 Hockey Challenge in November of 2017, and laced up in the World U18 Championships the following spring.

18-year-old Kucerik is fresh off his first season in the WHL, racking up 3 goals and 10 assists for 13 points for the Saskatoon Blades over 49 games. He is eligible to be drafted into the NHL this summer, and began the season with a 'C' rating on NHL Central Scouting's Players to Watch List.

This year's rendition of the World Juniors will return to Western Canadian soil in December, bridged between Red Deer and Edmonton. Round-robin play begins on Boxing Day, with the gold medal match wrapping up the tournament on January 5th.
