Knights Fall to G-Braves

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of their four-game series against the Gwinnett Braves by a score of 13-4 on Thursday from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.

RHP Tyler Danish (2-8, 4.62) started for the Knights and gave up three runs on eight hits over five innings. Danish, who struck out seven batters and walked just one, was saddled with the loss. LHP Will Lamb came on in relief of Danish in the sixth inning and allowed nine runs on eight hits over 1.1 innings.

RHP Matt Wisler (5-5, 3.72) gave up six hits over seven innings to earn the win for the G-Braves, who improved to 45-44 on the season. Wisler, who also fanned eight batters on the night, gave up two runs. Both of those runs came in the fifth inning.

Charlotte second baseman Yoan Moncada went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate in his return to the lineup. Moncada was activated off the Temporary Inactive List before the game after taking part in Sunday's SiriusXM Futures Game. He drove home Charlotte's first of two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single. Nicky Delmonico added Charlotte's second run on a sacrifice-fly RBI in the same inning. Delmonico chipped in with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning. He finished with two RBIs on the night. Willy Garcia added Charlotte's fourth and final run on an RBI single in the ninth.

Gwinnett shortstop Sean Kazmar led the way offensively on Thursday. Kazmar went 3-for-6 with a home run and six RBIs. Gwinnett right fielder Ronald Acuna also had a solid day at the plate in his debut. Acuna, who was promoted to Gwinnett from Double-A Mississippi before the game, went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, one home run, and two RBIs.

The Knights will continue their four-game series against the Gwinnett Braves from BB&T Ballpark on Friday. RHP Carson Fulmer (6-5, 5.55) will get the start for the Knights against Gwinnett LHP Andrew Albers (8-3, 3.61). First pitch is on tap for 7:05 p.m. from Uptown Charlotte. Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Charlotte (730 AM) and CharlotteKnights.com.
