Charlotte Knights News Release

(LOUISVILLE, KY) - The Louisville Bats scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with a 5-4 win over the Charlotte Knights in the finale of their three-game series from Louisville Slugger Field on Sunday. The Knights lost for just the first time this season in Louisville and wrapped up their season series with an 8-2 overall record against the Bats in 2017.

RHP Bobby Parnell (2-2, 10.24) was saddled with the loss after he was charged with two of the three runs in the final frame. Parnell came on in relief of Zack Burdi, who recorded one out in the ninth after a scoreless eighth inning. Parnell entered the game with one on and one out in the ninth and he had his troubles.

Parnell first got Zach Vincej to ground out for the second out of the inning, but then allowed four-straight singles. That was all the Bats needed to win Sunday's game in walk-off fashion. The final single came off the bat of Phillip Ervin, who singled home Brandon Dixon for the game-winner. The Bats spoiled Charlotte's attempt at a three-game series sweep.

Charlotte, NC native Kevin Shackelford (3-0, 1.85) earned the win out of the Louisville bullpen.

RHP Reynaldo Lopez started for the Knights and was solid over six innings. Lopez, 23, gave up two runs on seven hits in a no-decision. He walked one and struck out four batters on the day.

Chicago White Sox infielder Tyler Saladino went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in his sixth rehab game with the Knights this season. Cody Asche recorded a go-ahead two-run double in the ninth inning. Asche, who pinch-hit for Jason Bourgeois, gave the Knights a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
