Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Charlotte Knights raked six extra-base hits en route to a 7-2 triumph over the Indianapolis Indians Sunday afternoon at Victory Field. Tribe starter Nick Kingham pitched into the sixth inning but ultimately had his personal nine-game winning streak snapped in the defeat.

Charlotte (7-9) - losers of 12 consecutive games at Victory Field dating back to July 24, 2014 - snapped its slide in Indy behind a 3-for-4, two-double performance from right fielder Daniel Palka and six scoreless innings by starter Dylan Covey.

Palka gave the visitors the lead for good with a two-out double in the third, scoring Juan Perez from first base.

Indianapolis (7-7) couldn't scratch a run across against Covey (W, 2-1), with its best scoring chance against the righty coming in the fourth. The Tribe loaded the bases but Ryan Lavarnway wrapped into a 6-4-3 double play to quickly end the threat.

Kingham (L, 2-1) kept the Indians' deficit at 1-0 until a two-out stretch in the sixth. Patrick Leonard doubled off Kingham and moments later, scored on a throwing error by Tribe shortstop Kevin Kramer. The miscue led to a two-run homer off the bat of Eddy Alvarez that pushed Charlotte's advantage to 4-0.

Doubles by Palka and Matt Skole in the seventh put the Tribe in a 5-0 hole, but Indy showed fight with Jose Osuna and Jordan Luplow recording run-scoring hits in the eighth to pull within three. Charlotte responded with two runs on four hits in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Osuna, who entered his final at-bat of the game 0-for-2 with a walk, extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a slicing double into the right field corner.

Charlotte's winless drought in Indianapolis ended at 1,368 days. The Tribe swept each series against them at The Vic in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The Indians continue their homestand as the Syracuse Chiefs come to Circle City on Monday, April 23. Right-hander Tyler Eppler (1-1, 2.84) will start for Indy, opposite Chiefs righty Austin Voth (1-0, 1.32).
