Macon Knights News Release

MACON, Ga. – The Macon Knights announced Thursday that WR/LB Gabe Amey has been invited to workouts with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baltimore Ravens. Amey, 6’3”, 214 lbs, has proven to be one of the Knights’ top receivers this year and will get to display his offensive talent in front of the Buccaneers on Monday and the Ravens on Tuesday.

This season Amey has recorded 827 yards on 64 receptions, scored 18 touchdowns and has had two 100-yard receiving games (112 yards on May 25th and 110 yards on May 31st). Amey was voted the MVP against the Carolina Rhinos on April 19th and was named the game’s Ironman against the Rhinos on April 6th.

Kevin Porter, head coach and general manager of the Knights, wasn’t surprised that Amey is being rewarded with the chance to make an NFL roster.

“We are extremely excited for Gabe. The fact that he is getting these opportunities says a great deal about his ability to persevere and strive to reach all his goals,” said Porter.

Amey will play in this Saturday’s game against the Birmingham Steeldogs. On Monday, Amey will make the trip to Tampa Bay for a workout, then head to Baltimore on Tuesday and return to Macon on Wednesday for practice with the Knights.

A graduate of Menlo College in San Francisco, Amey is one of ten players since 1986 to play professional football after leaving the NCAA Division II school.

The Knights are at home this Saturday, 7:30 pm at the Macon Coliseum to face the Birmingham Steeldogs. Don’t miss “Pack the House” night as the Knights play their final regular season home game. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a replica football courtesy of Unite Georgia and an official 2002 Macon Knights team poster.
