Kingston's Chromiak Named to Team Slovakia for 2021 World Juniors

December 13, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Kingston Frontenacs News Release

There will be a Kingston Frontenac hitting the ice at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Alberta. The Slovak Ice Hockey Federation has announced Frontenacs forward Martin Chromiak as a member of their 25-player tournament roster.

Chromiak was named the country's 45-player selection camp roster in November, and after impressing the team's staff, he has made the final cut. The native of Ilava, Slovakia, did not make his nation's 2020 World Junior Championship roster but gets his chance this year after a season in the Ontario Hockey League.

Playing in Kingston for the second half of the 2019-20 season, Chromiak posted 11 goals, 22 assists and 33 points over 28 games. His production for the Fronts was enough to catch the eye of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Chromiak has played competitive games over the last few months on a temporary transfer with HK Dukla Trencin of the Slovak league. He scored two goals and three assists for five points in eight games before leaving for the Slovak selection camp.

This will not be his first experience playing for his country, as he has represented Slovakia in both the IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship and at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

The 2021 World Junior tournament begins on December 25 in an isolated bubble at Rogers Place in Edmonton, with Chromiak's Team Slovakia playing their first game against Switzerland. After the opening game, Slovakia will face Canada, Finland, and Germany in Group A action.

The Kingston Frontenacs wish Martin Chromiak all the best at the 2021 World Junior Championship!
