Kings Extend Armstrong's Contract

MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension with Kings center Derek Armstrong, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.
Armstrong, 33, has played in 54 games with the Kings this season and has 39 points (9-30=39) and 50 penalty minutes. His 30 assists are a career high and they rank tied for third on the team while his 39 points rank fifth on the team. In addition, Armstrong leads the Kings with a plus-16 rating and with six points in his last five games, Armstrong is only two points shy of a new career high.
During the 2005-06 season, Armstrong set career highs in assists (28) and points (41), and he tied for third on the club with seven power play goals. He also finished third on the Kings in face-off winning percentage (50.7 percent); he had seven multi-point games; he recorded his 100th career NHL point with a goal versus Calgary on October 23, 2005; and he recorded his first career NHL hat trick at Phoenix on December 29, 2005.
Acquired by the Kings from the New York Rangers for a sixth-round draft choice in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft on July 16, 2002, Armstrong has played in 239 games for the Kings and has 153 points (48-105=153), 159 penalty minutes and a plus-23 rating. In 325 career regular season NHL games with the Kings, Rangers, Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders, Armstrong has 172 points (57-115=172) and 215 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 190-pound native of Ottawa was originally selected by the Islanders in the sixth-round (128th overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
