Portland Beavers News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mike McCoy, Matt Miller and Matt Murton tallied three hits apiece and Franklin Morales pitched six solid innings as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Portland Beavers 8-3 at rain-soaked Security Service Field Saturday night.

After a one-hour, 46-minute rain delay pushed back the start of the game, the Sky Sox bats were hot early, scoring in four of the first five innings.

McCoy had two RBIs and scored three times, Miller drove in a pair of runs and Murton had three RBIs on the night to help the Sky Sox (44-31) win their fourth straight over the Beavers.

Morales (2-2) yielded one run on seven hits over six innings and struck out four.

Chad Huffman had an RBI double and a two-run single and Craig Stansberry, Drew Macias and the newly-signed Val Pascucci also collected two hits on the night for the Beavers (36-40), who left 10 runners on base.

Will Inman (0-3) walked six and gave up six hits over just four innings for the Beavers while allowing a season-high eight runs (7 earned).

The Sky Sox scored twice in the first, using two walks, two stolen bases, two errors and a sac fly to grab an early lead.

They tacked on another run in the third on consecutive singles by McCoy, Miller and Murton.

Huffman broke out of an 0-for-27 slump with an RBI double in the fourth to cut the Sky Sox lead to 3-1.

The Sky Sox then blew the game open with a two-out, four-run rally. McCoy singled home Chris Frey, who had walked, before Miller hit a two-run double to deep center. Murton added an RBI single to make it 7-1.

After the Sky Sox chased Inman by drawing two more walks to start the fifth, they cashed in one of the walks off reliever Mike Ekstrom, with a McCoy bases-loaded, infield RBI single.

The Beavers loaded the bases with no one out in the eighth but could only score twice, as Huffman's second single of the night plated Mike Baxter and Stansberry.
