Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - (Tuesday, August 27, 2002) - The Richmond Kickers will host the Charleston Battery this Wednesday, August 28th in their final home regular season match. Game time is 7pm at the University of Richmond Stadium. The first 1,000 fans in the gate will get a hackey sack courtesy of Tide in conjunction with Ukrop's.

The Kickers (13-8-6, 65 points) will look to improve their playoff seeding. If the season ended today, Richmond would be seeded fourth and would take on the fifth seeded Atlanta. With just one week remaining in the season, the Kickers can place anywhere from third through fifth. Depending on the outcomes of the remaining games, Richmond could see one of five different playoff opponents. While Wednesday's game may make the playoff picture a little clearer, final pairings may not be concrete until the last day of the regular season (September 1st).

Charleston (17-3-6, 81 points) has clinched the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference and will take on either the Toronto Lynx or the Charlotte Eagles, depending on which team clinches the #6 seed. So far this season the Battery and Kickers have met three times on the pitch, with Charleston holding a 2-0-1 lead over Richmond.

The Richmond Kickers will now accept votes for the Supporters Choice Most Valuable Player on-line at RichmondKickers.com. One vote per valid email address will be accepted. Also, ballots will be handed out at this Wednesday's game. The Supporters Choice MVP will be announced after the conclusion of the 2002 season.
