Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Jimmy Kerrigan is known for his prodigious power in batting practice. The Florida Fire Frogs (1-4) are now aware of his power in a game. The Fort Myers Miracle (3-2) left-fielder drilled a mammoth two-run homerun over the scoreboard in left to power the Miracle to a 5-4 win Monday Night at Hammond Stadium.
After falling behind early for the fourth time in five games, the Miracle battled back with a three-run fourth inning. Down 2-0, Miracle right-fielder Jaylin Davis drew a two-out walk. Travis Blankenhorn, who finished just one hit shy of the cycle for the second time this season, blooped a double to left. A wild pitch and consecutive RBI singles from Jared Foster and Alex Perez and the Miracle had a 3-2 lead.
The Fire Frogs reclaimed the lead at 4-3 on a two run sixth inning homerun by Braxton Davidson, but the lead was short lived. In the bottom of the sixth, Kerrigan stepped to the plate and connected on his first home run of the season to put the Miracle in front for good.
In the eighth inning, the Miracle completed the game's scoring. With runners at first and third and one out, Foster grounded into a fielder's choice to plate Davis and the Miracle's sixth run of the ballgame.
In his season debut, Clark Beeker (0-0) tossed four innings of two-run baseball. He struck out five. Cody Stashak (1-0) earned the win with two innings in relief. The right-hander allowed two runs on one hit in two innings of work. Alex Robinson earned his second save of the season with two innings of scoreless relief. Robinson got Fire Frogs right-fielder Anfernee Seymour to fly to right with the tying runs on base to end the game.
The Miracle and Fire Frogs continue their four-game series Tuesday night in Fort Myers. Fire Frogs right-hander Bryse Wilson (0-0) opposes Miracle right-hander Sean Poppen (0-0). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
