MOBILE WIZARDS BAG "SNAKE" FOR arenafootball2
af2 Press Release
MOBILE, AL - Former Alabama and NFL quarterback Ken Stabler has been announced as part of the ownership group and Director of Football Operations for the Mobile Wizards' arenafootball2 team.
Stabler's vast football experience, and roots in southern Alabama, make him a logical choice for the position, according to team owner Norris Armstrong.
"Ken has been a winner in football all his life, as a player at Foley High School, the University of Alabama and in the NFL. He knows what it takes to make positive things happen on the field and we welcome his expertise."
As a 15-year NFL quarterback, Stabler passed for almost 28,000 yards and led the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl XI victory over the Minnesota Vikings. He was AFC Player of the Year in 1974, NFL Player of the Year in 1976 and MVP of the Crimson Tide's 1967 Sugar Bowl victory over Nebraska. Stabler was a four-year quarterback for legendary Coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant at Alabama.
"I love the game of football," says the current color analyst for Crimson Tide football radio broadcasts. "The action and excitement of arenafootball2 brings a fast-paced, wide open offensive display the fans will love. Defensively, the attack schemes offer the same hard hitting, teeth-rattling activity that football fans in the south really appreciate. I'm ready for the season to begin!"
A four-time NFL Pro Bowler as a member of the Raiders, Stabler also quarterbacked the Houston Oilers and finished his playing career as quarterback of the New Orleans Saints in 1984.
As Director of Football Operations Stabler will choose the team's head coach and actively recruit the 18 player squad. Today's announcement is concurrent with the opening of team headquarters at the Lafayette Plaza Hotel in downtown Mobile.
