East Kentucky Miners News Release

PIKEVILLE, KY. - East Kentucky Miners Coach Kevin Keathley will throw out the first pitch at this year's 15th Region All "A" Classic. Keathley will toss out the opening pitch on Thursday, April 10 in Paintsville at storied Charlie Adkins Field. This year's 15th Region All "A" Classic will include host Paintsville, Pikeville, Allen Central, Shelby Valley, Betsy Layne and Phelps.

"I'm excited about having the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at this year's 15th Region All "A" Classic," said Keathley. "The fact that this year's tournament is being held at Paintsville - home to one of the state's top high school baseball programs - just adds excitement to the entire sporting event. I encourage all fans to get out to Charlie Adkins Field in Paintsville and support their teams in the 15th Region All "A" Classic."

The tradition-rich 15th Region has produced several professional baseball players. Paintsville High School graduate Johnnie LeMaster played 12 seasons (1975-1985 and 1987) for four different Major League Baseball teams. LeMaster started his career with the San Francisco Giants, playing 10 seasons for the National League squad. On September 2, 1975, LeMaster set a major league record, hitting an inside-the-park home run in his first at-bat during a 7-3 win over the Dodgers.

Paintsville, which captured the 1990 state championship, will host the 15th Region All "A" Classic. The winner of the 15th Region All "A" Classic will advance on to the small-school state tournament.

Keathley guided East Kentucky to a 26-22 regular-season record in the team's inaugural campaign. East Kentucky was one of four expansion teams in the CBA during the 2007-08 season.
