Kane County Hands Kernels Second One-Run Loss, 3-2

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Kane County won their second straight one run ballgame over the Kernels, winning 3-2 at Perfect Game Field on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars scored first in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead. Orlando Calixte singled to begin the inning and later came home on a RBI single by Angel Franco.

Kane County extended their lead to 3-0 with a two run home run by Brett Eibner, his 11th of the season. Seth Fowler (1-3) took the loss for the Kernels on the mound. He went 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out four and walking two.

The Kernels scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting Kane County's lead to 3-2. Ricky Alvarez launched his 10th home run of the year over the wall in left, trimming the Cougars lead to one run. Leondy Perez (6-11) picked up the win in six innings of work. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking out three and walking three.

The Kernels were unable to score against the Kane County bullpen. Cole White, Chas Byrne, and Chase Boruff combined to throw three innings, allowing one hit. Boruff recorded his 5th save, going 1.2 innings. The Kernels bullpen trio of Ty Kelley, Dakota Robinson, and Daniel Tillman held down the Cougars offense, allowing no runs and three hits over 3.1 innings.
