Charlottetown Islanders News Release

rdan Maher ended his illustrious major junior career on Prince Edward Island with the Charlottetown Islanders. It's seems only fitting that he begins his university career here as well.

The University of Prince Edward Island announced today that Maher has officially committed to the Men's Hockey Panthers ahead of the 2019-2020 season.

"I'm really excited about my commitment to UPEI!" said Maher. "I think we are going to have a strong team this year and they have a good program there."

Maher says that his time with the Islanders helped make his decision for him.

"I spent over three months in Charlottetown and loved my time here," Maher explained. "People were very welcoming and I can't wait to get back to the Island and get things started with the Panthers."

The forward from Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador spent the majority of his five-year QMJHL career with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, the team that selected him 6th overall in the 2014 QMJHL Draft. It was with the Titan that Maher would capture both the President's Cup and Memorial Cup in 2018 before being traded to the Halifax Mooseheads ahead of the 2018-2019 season.

He'd join the Islanders over the Christmas trading period as part of the Keith Getson trade, and he'd make an immediate impact, recording 9 goals and 28 points in 35 games as an Islander.

Over his incredible 323-game QMJHL career, Maher recorded 81 goals and 220 points.

"We are very excited to add rdan to our line-up," said Panthers Men's Hockey coach Forbes MacPherson. "He has been very well coached, and is a player that brings a wealth of experience and assets to our program."

With his commitment to the Panthers, Maher will join a host of former Islanders players, including Kameron Kielly, Filip Rydstrom, Alex McQuaid, and Daryl MacCallum.

He joins Summerside Capitals sniper TJ Shea as the recruits officially announced for the Panthers at this point, with more expected in the near future.
