Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino led 6-1 in the fourth inning on Sunday at Lake Elsinore but could not hang on to the lead going on to lose on a walk-off single by Buddy Reed that secured a 7-6 win and three-game sweep of the Sixers. The loss was Inland Empire's fourth consecutive loss and dropped them a game behind in the South Division standings.

The 66ers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on Brandon Marsh 's two-run single and added two more runs in the frame on a dropped flyball by Lake Elsinore (28-29) CF Edward Olivares . It was 4-1 heading into the fourth when Jahmai Jones smashed a two-run homer, his sixth of the year to make it 6-1. Jones finished with a double and the homer on the day. Marsh went on to add two more hits giving him his first four-hit game with the Sixers. Despite the duo's heroics, the Sixers' offense dried up and the Storm came back. Hduson Potts hit two run homer against Inland Empire (27-30) starter Nate Bertnes to make it 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth. The wheels fell off in the sixth as the Storm tied the game 6-6 scoring three runs; after a quick out, an infield single was followed by five consecutive walks. The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when Kelvin Melean doubled inside the bag at third to open the frame against IE reliever Jonah Wesely (2-1). Eventually with one out and runners at second and third, Reed drilled a single inside the bag at first to knock home Melean.

The 66ers open a series at home versus the Storm on Tuesday at 7:05pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
