John Deere- Waterloo Centennial Celebrated on Black Hawks Jerseys

January 12, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Deere Jerseys Celebrate Centennial

Waterloo, Iowa- One hundred years ago, innovative farm equipment manufacturer Deere & Company began making tractors for the first time. The new product was added to the John Deere lineup through the purchase of the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, and agriculture across the world was changed forever.

The momentous marriage between Deere and Waterloo will be celebrated by the company and the city throughout 2018. The Waterloo Black Hawks will participate in the commemoration during games on February 2nd and 3rd versus the Tri-City Storm. Hawks jerseys on those nights will feature a vintage John Deere logo and color scheme for the first time, and all Deere employees and their families will receive $8 tickets by showing their company ID when picking up tickets.

"Generations of families in the Cedar Valley have been supported - directly and indirectly - through jobs in Waterloo's John Deere facilities," said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. "Meanwhile, the ag equipment which has come out of the Waterloo operation has helped to feed people all over the globe and genuinely made the world a better place. So both near and far, there are many who have a reason to be thankful for the wise and fortunate corporate deal which was struck in 1918."

The unique sweaters which the Hawks will wear in early February will even be doing some good on their own. Following the February 3rd matchup, the jerseys will be auctioned, and profits will be contributed to local chapters of Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters. This will be the third consecutive year that the two youth-focused organizations have received proceeds from a jersey auction.

This season's jerseys are green and gold. The white logo on the front originally appeared on Deere products from 1940 through 1956 and features the signature leaping buck under the Deere name and the phrase "Quality Farm Equipment." On the back of the sweater below the collar appears the phrase "John Deere Tractors at 100;" below that in a yellow stripe near the waistline "The Legend Runs On Since 1918" celebrates the Deere tractor centennial in specific terms.

"Anyone with a connection to John Deere tractors should consider making a bid on one of these jerseys," Greene added.

Tickets for both John Deere Weekend games against the Tri-City Storm are on sale now from the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office. To order call (319) 291-7680 or visit waterlooblackhawks.com.
