Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
CHARLESTON, WV - The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with Major League Baseball and the Pittsburgh Pirates, are proud to announce that Power pitching coach Joel Hanrahan has been selected as the U.S. team's Bullpen Coach for the 2018 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 15, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
A two-time MLB All-Star for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011 and 2012, Hanrahan will man the relief corps for the United States team during the game taking place on Sunday of All-Star Weekend. Joining Hanrahan on the U.S. team roster from the Pirates system are former Power players RHP Mitch Keller and INF Ke'Bryan Hayes.
After entering the year as Pittsburgh's top prospect according to Baseball America and MLB.com, Keller has soared through Double-A and earned his first jump to the Triple-A level with the Indianapolis Indians. Through 16 combined starts, Keller is 9-3 with a 3.71 ERA across 94.2 innings with 89 strikeouts. In his lone season with the Power in 2016, Keller dominated the South Atlantic League, going 8-5 with a 2.46 ERA in 23 outings over 124.1 innings while racking up 131 strikeouts. The Cedar Rapids native raked in the accolades that season, earning Mid-Season, Post-Season and Baseball America Low Class A and Minor League All-Star honors. He was also tabbed as the Most Outstanding Pitcher in the South Atlantic League and Pittsburgh's Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Hayes has spent the entirety of 2018 with the Double-A Altoona Curve, averaging .290 over 71 games with four homers and 21 RBI. The 2015 first round pick joined Keller in Charleston in 2016, also snagging a Mid-Season All-Star nod while batting .263 with six home runs and 37 RBI in 65 games despite an injury-riddled second half. Hayes is currently the third-best prospect in Pittsburgh's system per MLBPipeline.
Both Keller and Hayes will be making their first trip to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
