Joel Hanrahan named Southern League Pitcher of the Week

Jacksonville, FLA - Suns right hander Joel Hanrahan has been named the BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week for June 5-11.

Hanrahan tossed 13.0 scoreless innings, going 2-0 in his two starts last week to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. On June 5 against Mobile, he hurled 6.0 shutout innings, fanning eight hitters while allowing just a sixth-inning single and walking five. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting his second career triple and scoring on a squeeze play.

The righty continued his dominance June 10 against Huntsville, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings and allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. The righty also sustained his success at the plate, hitting an RBI single in his 1-for-2 performance. Hanrahan, who is currently enjoying a 15.0 consecutive scoreless inning streak, last allowed a run leading off the fourth inning on May 31.

He is tied for the league lead with 7 wins and ranks fifth with a 2.58 ERA. The 24-year-old Norwalk, IA native was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2000 draft. Hanrahan has been a member of the Suns for three different seasons, earning Southern League Most Outstanding Pitcher for the 2003 season.
