Jim Fahey Re-Assigned to Cleveland

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons today announced that defenseman Jim Fahey has been reassigned by the San Jose Sharks. Wayne Thomas, General Manager of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.

Fahey posted two points (two assists) in 13 games with the Sharks this season, while adding eight penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating.

Last season, Fahey split his rookie season between Cleveland and San Jose. Beginning the season in Cleveland, Fahey appeared in 25 games scoring 3 goals and 14 assists before being recalled to San Jose on December 8th. Fahey played the remainder of the season with the Sharks, registering 1 goal and 19 assists in 43 games. In leading rookie defensemen in assists, Fahey was named as the San Jose Sharks Playstation "Rookie of the Year".

Prior to joining the Sharks organization, Fahey, posted 46 points (14 goals, 32 assists) in 39 games with Northeastern University (Hockey East) during the 2001-02 season. That season, Fahey, along with current Barons defenseman Doug Murray, was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the nation's most valuable player.

Fahey was selected by San Jose in the eighth round (212th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

In related news, the Sharks acquired a second round draft choice in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft from the Calgary Flames for goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff. Also, with Fahey reassigned to Cleveland, Greg Labenski was reassigned to Kalamazoo of the UHL.
