JetHawks Win Shootout, Sweep Rawhide
LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks earned their first series sweep of the season with an 11-9 win over the Visalia Rawhide Thursday night at The Hangar. The JetHawks have won four in row and once again have a winning record on the season.
Lancaster (21-20) scored in each of the first five innings, and in seven of eight overall. Tyler Nevin put the JetHawks on the board with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. Nevin went 3-for-4 with a team-best four RBI on the night.
The teams traded runs in the early going before Lancaster pulled away with three runs in the fourth inning. Vince Feranandez, who also had three hits, drove in one of the runs with a double as the JetHawks went up by four.
Forrest Wall also had a three-hit night, which he capped off with an RBI single in the eighth inning. It's the fifth three-hit game of the season for Wall, who leads the JetHawks with 18 total multi-hit contests.
Visalia (22-19) made things interesting in the ninth. Drew Ellis hit the last of three Rawhide home runs, a three-run shot that cut Lancaster's lead to two. Bryan Baker retired the next two hitters to finish the game.
Ty Culbreth (1-0) earned his first win of the season for Lancaster. The lefty allowed six runs (four earned) over five innings in his second start.
Connor Grey (4-2) took the defeat for Visalia. He allowed a career-high 11 hits, and nine of Lancaster's runs were charged to him.
Lancaster's four-game winning streak is the team's longest of the season. The victory gave the JetHawks their first sweep of 2018 as well. At 21-20, the JetHawks have a winning record for the first time since May 6. They lead the South Division heading into a weekend series with Inland Empire.
The JetHawks play the first of three in San Bernardino Friday night. Matt Dennis (2-6) starts against lefty Nate Bertness (1-3) in the opener. First pitch from San Manuel Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
