Seattle Reign FC News Release

Seattle - Seattle Reign FC midfielder Jess Fishlock has been included on the Welsh women's national football team roster as they look to secure their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup appearance in a qualifying match against England on August 31.

Fishlock and the Welsh team will play England at Rodney Parade in Newport, Wales. The match will kick off at 11:45 a.m. PT. Currently, Wales is undefeated in group play (5-0-2, 17 points over seven matches), and leads Group 1. The fixture with England on the 31st will be Wales' eighth and final match in World Cup qualifying. England, which features Reign FC forward Jodie Taylor, ranks second in the group (5-0-1, 16 points over 6 matches) and will play its final match on September 4 on the road against Kazakhstan.

In their last meeting on April 6, Wales and England played to a 0-0 tie in Southampton, England.

A win for Wales on August 31 would clinch the group and punch their ticket to the World Cup. A draw will leave Wales in first place in the group after the match, but the squad could drop to second in the group should England defeat Kazakhstan.

The four UEFA group runners-up with the most points will enter a playoff to earn the final spot for UEFA in the World Cup.

Fishlock has one goal in Wales' qualifying matches, scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over Kazakhstan on September 17, 2017.

In 2017, Fishlock became the first player, male or female, to reach 100 caps for Wales. She was named Welsh Footballer of the Year in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, and has played for the Welsh national team since 2006. Earlier this year, Fishlock was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).

This season with Reign FC, Fishlock has played 1,363 minutes and scored one goal. Her lone tally came on the road against Utah, giving Seattle a crucial three points in a 1-0 win. The goal also made Fishlock one of only 11 players in the league to score in all six seasons of NWSL play.

Reign FC has just one more match left in its regular season. The team will travel south to play Portland Thorns FC on September 7 at Providence Park. Action kicks off at 7:00 p.m. PT and will be featured as the Lifetime Game of the Week.
