Jays Pick up Convincing 9-3 Win in Daytona

May 21, 2018 - Florida State League (FSL1) - Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, FL.---Dunedin banged out 14 base knocks while LHP Tayler Saucedo paced the way on the mound to lead the Blue Jays to the 9-3 victory over the Daytona Tortugas on a gloomy evening in Daytona Beach, FL.

The Blue Jays cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the third, sending eight men to the plate and scoring three times. John LaPrise reached on the error by the shortstop Brantley Bell. Two batters later Josh Palacios walked to set up the RBI situation with two runners aboard for Logan Warmoth who smacked a double to left center allowing LaPrise to score to give Dunedin their first run of the game. The next hitter Bradley Jones ripped a double to the right center alley way to score Palacios and Warmoth to extend the Jays lead to 3-0.

Dunedin added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to give the southpaw Tayler Saucedo a five-run cushion. At this point, Saucedo had retired 11 straight Tortugas hitters and settled in nicely. Daytona managed to score a run in the fifth on the RBI groundout by Brantley Bell, and pushed across another run when Tyler Stephenson roped an RBI double to left center to score Taylor Trammell to cut the Dunedin lead to 5-2.

In the top of the seventh, Riley Adams and Kacy Clemens stroked backt-o-back singles to put two runners on for Eduard Pinto who drove in a run with a fielder's choice. Nash Knight and John LaPrise followed one another with an RBI single and double respectively to extend Dunedin's lead to 8-3.

Daytona threatened one final time in the seventh. With one out, Ibandel Isabel crushed a home run over the wall in left center. Saucedo then loaded the bases, but made a huge pitch to induce a 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Jose Siri to end the rally for the Tortugas.

LHP Travis Bergen closed the door, pitching two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to finish off Daytona. Saucedo threw a season high 99 pitches picking up his third win of the year for the Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, Dunedin finished with 14 hits and finished the series with double digit hits in two of the three games in the set.

After finishing the seven game road trip at 3-4, Dunedin returns home to begin a seven game homestand with the game one of three game series tomorrow night at Dunedin Stadium against the Florida Fire Frogs. The first pitch is set for 6:30 E.T.
