Jayden Perron Named USHL Forward of the Week
October 19, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel forward Jayden Perron has been named United States Hockey League Forward of the Week for the first time in his USHL career, the league announced Wednesday.
Perron, a University of North Dakota commit, registered his first two goals of the season in an 8-3 victory over Team USA (U17) on Oct. 14 and followed that performance with a trio of assists in a 5-4 loss against Team USA (U17) the following night.
Perron has registered at least a point in all eight games this season. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native currently leads the USHL with 13 points (2G, 11A).
"Jayden is such a dynamic player and he had a great weekend," said Steel Assistant Coach Derek Whitmore. "To see him finally find the back of the net twice on Friday after starting the season with eight assists was big time for his confidence, not just for him individually, but also for our team as a whole. Even as a 2005 birth year, he is such a big part of this team and we have been very happy with him through the first eight games."
In his rookie campaign last season, Perron totaled 45 points (17G, 28A) in 60 games as a 16-year-old and was named to the USHL All-Rookie Second Team.
Perron is a prospect eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft and is the second Steel skater to earn USHL Player of the Week honors this season, joining forward Nick Moldenhauer who took home the Forward of the Week award last week on Oct. 12.
The Steel will return home October 21 and 22 to take on the Youngstown Phantoms. Fans can bring their dogs to the game on Friday, October 21 for Pucks and Pups Night presented by PetSuites. On Saturday, October 22, the Steel pay tribute to Parks and Recreation by celebrating the Pawnee Harvest Festival. October 22 marks the first Slumberland Family Pack game of the season. Fans can get 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 chips, 4 sodas/waters and 4 chuck-a-pucks for just $50.
