Jarren Duran Named Carolina League Player of the Month

SALEM, Virginia - Minor League Baseball has released its May players of the month and Salem's Jarren Duran took the honor for the Carolina League.

Boston's 9th-overall prospect sparked a 16 game hit streak, playing in 25 games in May and recording 38 hits overall including three home runs. The California native drove 11 runs in while scoring himself 23 times and had 11 multi-hit games including a 4-for-4 night against Winston-Salem May 24th.

Duran holds the top spot in the Carolina League in batting average (.387), on-base percentage (.456), slugging (.543), on-base plus slugging (.998), hits (77) and runs (99). The 22-year-old finished second in stolen bases (18) and fourth in extra base hits (20) before receiving his promotion to the Portland Sea Dogs on June 3, 2019.

Jarren claims both of Salem's 2019 awards thus far, as the player of the week for May 13-19 and now the player of the month. He debuted with Portland Tuesday night, recording a 1-for-3 performance including a walk and run scored.

The Salem Red Sox are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and call Haley Toyota Field in Salem, Virginia home.
