Odessa Jackalopes News Release

Odessa, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes, proud members of the North American Hockey League, have signed forward, Rex Moe, to a tender for the 2018-19 season. Moe is the fourth tender the Jackalopes have signed, and second in the last week.

Moe, the native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, stuck to the his home state for his midget career, splitting time with the Lansing Capitals 16U and Belle Tire U18 teams, combining for 38 points over 47 games between the two years. Moe is a big forward, standing at 6-foot-1, 215-pounds.

"Odessa is a great team, and they play in a hard division," says Moe. "They have also moved a ton of guys on to the next level which is great. I have heard nothing but good things about the coaching staff too."

Moe left the Midwest for the Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he joined the Trenton Golden Hawks last season. In his first year of junior hockey, Moe helped lead his team to the playoffs by posting 9 goals and 20 more assists over 50 games, while also playing in 20 playoffs games as well.

Moe competed in the Dudley Hewitt Cup where his team won the championship over the Georgetown Raiders. With the victory, his team also competed in the Royal Bank Cup, but they lost out in pool play.

"Rex is a big body that puts up almost a point per game in his second season of junior hockey this year," says associate head coach Cody Campbell. "We expect Rex to add size to our forward group as well as be a player we can rely on to produce offensively as a 20-year-old."

Moe increased his numbers, racking up 38 points (splitting with 19 goals and 19 assists) over only 41 games this season, while also picking up 88 penalty minutes in his second year of junior hockey. Moe's team snuck into the playoffs where Rex collected two goals and two assists over the two games for Trenton.

"The biggest difference this year I faced was playing a bigger role," says Moe. "It has really helped me grow as a player both mentally and physically."

Moe adds to a very physical set of tenders, but has the skill to go along with it. Moe joins Martin Pietraszek, Matt Hutton, and Cade Roberts as the other Jackalopes tenders who look to break through with the team for next season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
