Jackalopes Slide Past Mudbugs 3-2

Odessa Jackalopes News Release

Odessa, TX - Peyton Frantti netted the game winner for the Odessa Jackalopes (32-22-3-2) early in the third period to edge the Shreveport Mudbugs (41-11-3-4) in a seesaw game on Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum. The win was Odessa's first over Shreveport in regulation this season, and only second win against the Mudbugs.

Shreveport netted the first goal as a Matt Weber found the open net on a misplay from the Jackalopes. Weber's goal was his first of his NAHL career only 3:51 into the contest.

The Jacks fought back with a two-on-one breakaway with Viktor Johansson and Petr Miko. Johansson's shot kicked back out before a beautiful kick-pass to Miko found twine off the Czech's stick just over the halfway point in the first.

Odessa would take the lead in the second on the first power play for either squad. After a double minor for high-sticking on Shreveport, Petr Miko finessed his way to an open lane before sniping a shot past the glove hand of Shreveport's Jaxon Castor. Miko sniped it off the far post and in to gain the lead with his second of the contest.

Weber put up his second of the game as well late in the middle frame. Alex Camarre made save after save, but the persistence of Shreveport is what did it in for Weber's second of the night.

Entering the third, it was a dead-even heat, but an early goal from Peyton Frantti would put the Jacks ahead and never look back. Ricky Carballo made excellent plays to protect the puck before finding Frantti for the one-timer. Frantti heeled the shot, but with a screened and confused Castor, found the back of the net for the game-winner.

Alex Camarre backstopped the Jacks to victory with 29 saves in the win, while Jaxon Castor only stopped 26 attempts from Odessa. Odessa's power play over the past five games is now 7-18 (38.8%) as it picked up another goal tonight.

The Jackalopes finish off their regular season tomorrow night against the Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:11 pm inside the Ector County Coliseum. Buy your ticket for the game to also gain entry to the Alumni Game at 3:00 pm.
