Isobel Cup and NCAA Champion Chelsey Rosenthal Re-Signs with Minnesota Whitecaps

September 30, 2020 - National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) - Minnesota Whitecaps News Release

SAINT PAUL - Two-time NCAA champion Chelsey Rosenthal has signed for her third season in the NWHL with the Minnesota Whitecaps.

The speedy and aggressive defender has played 39 games in the two seasons since the Whitecaps joined the league, winning the Isobel Cup with Minnesota in 2019 and reaching the Isobel Cup Final in 2020 (canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic).

"This will be another fun year of intense competition and inspiring others," said Rosenthal. "I'm excited to hit the ice for my third NWHL season with the Whitecaps."

A former finalist for the Ms. Hockey Award for the best player in Minnesota, Rosenthal has seven assists in the NWHL. The Roseville, Minn. native had an incredible career from 2002 - 2006 at the University of Minnesota. In her four seasons, the Gophers advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four every time and won two national championships.

In 151 games, she recorded 43 points on seven goals and 36 assists. She was also a three-time WCHA All-Academic honoree. In her senior season, Rosenthal was the recipient of the prestigious Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award.

"Chelsey has explosive speed and she uses it to rush the puck in attack mode," said Whitecaps GM and co-head coach Jack Brodt. "Her very aggressive play makes her one of our top penalty killers. As one of our veteran defenders, we expect her to be one of our team leaders."
