Isles Host Charlotte Saturday

July 1, 2010 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Can the Islanders bring the same intensity to USL-Division 2 play that they've found in the U.S. Open Cup?

This Saturday, July 3, at 7pm the Harrisburg City Islanders (1-6-4, 7 points) continue to seek a second win over a division squad when they host the Charlotte Eagles (4-5-3, 15 points) at Skyline Sports Complex on City Island.

The Islanders hope to ignite the same team effort that helped them secure a dramatic 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls of the MLS this week, launching them into U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals play.

In the beginning of the season the Eagles gained a 2-0 result against the Islanders at Charlotte Christian Stadium in the first match between the two teams. The second game saw Charlotte visiting Harrisburg in a match that was littered with miscues from both teams, resulting in a 0-0 tie where defense---especially Charlotte goalkeeper Erik Lefebvre---proved to be the difference. Debola Ogunseye tried to make it past Danny Cepero and the Islanders' backfield but could never capitalize. The Islanders hope the momentum from their critical win over the Red Bulls can help take down the Eagles, and push the Islanders up the league standings.

J.T. Noone and Geoff Bloes have combined to give the Islanders a majority of offensive success over the course of the past few weeks. Noone assisted Bloes' goal to gain a 2-2 result against the Brooklyn Italians in U.S. Open Cup play before they reversed roles that had Noone taking the Islanders up 3-2 the same match. And against the Long Island Rough Riders Noone curved a pass to Bloes where he found the back of the net to put the Isles up 1-0 and get the win for Harrisburg. And thanks to Dominic Oppong, the the Islanders solidified the win over the Italians and gained the victory over the New York Red Bulls with his late heroics.

Now Charlotte is next in line.

The Eagles come off a 1-1 draw with the Richmond Kickers, with Miguel Ferrer answering Richmond's goal in the 68th minute with one of his own. The Islanders last USL-D2 match was against the Kickers as well the week before in a 1-0 loss on the Island. Matthew Delicate notched the only goal for Richmond that game.

The City Islanders take the field to face the Charlotte Eagles Saturday, July 3 at Skyline Sports Complex on City Island. Kick-off is at 7pm and doors open at 5:30pm. The City of Harrisburg's holiday weekend special events parking fee on the Island is $3.

And Harrisburg's push for a U.S. Open Cup championship is still alive as well. In three weeks Harrisburg will travel to face DC United of the MLS in the quarterfinals of U.S. Open Cup play on Wednesday, July 21, at Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, MD at 7:30pm. This quarterfinals match follows the Islanders heart-pounding win over the New York Red Bulls of MLS. There is a bus trip and group-ticket discounts going through a process of confirmation for this match and live coverage may be on WMSS Radio/Internet for fans to follow---all details coming soon. Can Harrisburg take down yet another Major League Soccer powerhouse?

The Islanders are also proud to announce an exhibition game against Major League Soccer affiliate the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday, July 27 at Skyline Sports Complex! To purchase tickets for any of these matches and find more information call 717-441-GOAL or check out the official City Islanders website at www.cityislanders.com.
