Islanders Unveil Details for Hockey Fights Cancer Game
For the first time ever, the Charlottetown Islanders will go purple.
On Friday, November 29th, the Islanders will join the Hockey Fights Cancer movement that has been adopted by the National Hockey League, following the trends of professional hockey teams across North America to end the fight against cancer.
"By transitioning from Pink in the Rink to Hockey Fights Cancer, our focus shifts from ending one specific form of cancer to helping in the fight against cancer as a whole," said Islanders president of operations Craig Foster. "With so many initiatives dedicated to the cause, including Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Movember, we wanted to be able to do our part on more than one front."
The players will sport lavender-coloured jerseys inspired by Hockey Fights Cancer that will be available to the public following the game in a variety of ways: An online auction, a silent auction inside the Eastlink Centre, and via raffle tickets available for purchase during the game. Hockey Fights Cancer-themed t-shirts will be available in the Isles Team Shop in the week leading up to the game. Proceeds from the T-shirt and jersey sales will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Founded in 1998 by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association, Hockey Fights Cancer unites the hockey community in support of cancer patients and their families. The initiative gets an assist from players, coaches, officials, equipment managers, front office staff, corporate partners, and fans. Together, the hockey family looks to inspire hope and courage for those who are living with, going through, and moving past cancer.
Hockey Fights Cancer helps Canadian Cancer Society and Movember Foundation provide a better quality of life for patients, caregivers, and their families.
