Islanders Home-and-Home with Bathurst Makes It's Way to Charlottetown

February 23, 2020 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Coming off a come-from-behind overtime thriller last night in Bathurst, the Charlottetown Islanders and Acadie-Bathurst Titan do it all over again this afternoon at the Eastlink Centre.

The Islanders (28-25-5-0) came back from a 2-1 deficit midway through the third with two straight goals, before Bathurst tied it up late in the third. Cedric Desruisseaux added the game-winning goal in overtime, his second overtime winner of the season. With five game-winning goals this season, Desruisseaux leads the Islanders and is in the top-15 in all the QMJHL in that category.

Another player who stirred the drink offensively for Charlottetown last night was Nikita Alexandrov. The St. Louis Blues prospect had a goal and two assists last night in Bathurst, bringing his season point total to 42 points in 36 games. Alexandrov has been a pillar of consistency through the month of February, recording 11 points in 8 games this month.

Meanwhile the Titan (11-38-4-4) manage to pick up a point at home as their young roster build on the experience they're gaining each game. With 13 players on the roster aged either 16 or 17, the Titan have one of the youngest rosters in the QMJHL.

One of those young players who made an impact last night was Riley Kidney. The 16-year-old forward from Enfield, Nova Scotia picked up a pair of assists last night, bringing him to 30 points in his first season in the QMJHL. The 11th overall pick in the 2019 QMJHL Draft, Kidney now joins Cole Huckins as two 2003-born players on the Titan roster with at least 30 points on the season.

Today is Kids Run the Show day at the Eastlink Centre! The next generation takes over the in-game production for today's matchup, from the PA Announcer to the In-Game Host, even behind the benches!
