 Stockton Kings

In this Together: 209 Strong

May 7, 2020 - NBA G League (G League)
Stockton Kings News Release

During these unprecedented times, it is more important than ever that we come together. To help support the 209 community during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stockton Kings joined with the Sacramento Kings, Kings Guard Gaming and Golden 1 Center to engage and connect through the "In This Together" initiative. These connections have included food and supply donations, small business support, at-home educational and physical activities, videos and online activations.

"The entire Kings franchise works to use our platform for good because we are bigger than basketball, and we are proud to do what we can to help support our 209 family," said Stockton Kings Vice President of Business Operations Dustin Toms. "These are uncertain times but the one thing we know for sure is that we are all in this together to keep our community safe."

Across the city and region, we are seeing our community rally together, and we are proud to partner with the Stockton Strong campaign to help identify local area needs, amplify resources and provide supplies.

We have also joined fellow Stockton sports teams, the Stockton Heat, Stockton Ports, University of the Pacific Athletics and Visit Stockton to create a coalition, Stockton Sports Unite, working to help those in need. During the month of May, the coalition is holding a food drive benefiting the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton and San Joaquin and a raffle with proceeds going to the United Way of San Joaquin County COVID-19 Relief Fund.

To aid in protecting essential workers providing critical services and to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we have partnered with a local seamstress, Sheryl Giles Bridal, who created 400 masks out of our team merchandise to be donated to the United Way of San Joaquin County as well as Visionary Home Builders of California, a nonprofit made up of affordable housing developers. The masks will be distributed to frontline workers within the organization and seniors at their affordable living locations.

During this time of social distancing, we are connecting with our fans online. Our head coach Ty Ellis has shared virtual basketball skills for Jr. Kings and our players are participating in social media question and answer sessions with fans. We're also partnering with the Stockton Unified School District and the San Joaquin Office of Education to provide content from the Stockton Kings Fit Kids Program presented by Kaiser Permanente and exercise videos from the Kings organization for health and PE curriculum while students continue to practice distance learning. Additionally, Stockton Kings guard Cody Demps went head to head against Kings Guard Gaming guard Waseem "Seemo" Talbert during "Play With the Pros," a unique series which featured NBA 2K20 games played by teams comprised of Kings Guard and Stockton Kings players alongside local social media influencers or fans.

While we miss basketball and seeing our fans, we're incredibly proud to be 209 strong and thank everyone for continuing to follow public health guidance to keep themselves and our community safe.
