KiXX 12, IGNITION 10 OT (11-19-06) - The Detroit Ignition (2-2) registered its first home loss of the 2006-07 season, 12-10, to the visiting Philadelphia KiXX (2-2) in front of another above capacity crowd (3,566) at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI on Sunday, November 19. KiXX midfielder Tony Donatelli sealed the victory for Philadelphia with the game-winning goal, a two-pointer, 8:56 into the first overtime period. Ignition goalkeeper Sanaldo (2-2) took the loss for Detroit, stopping 13 of the 19 shots he faced in the contest. All-MISL forward Jamar Beasley led the Ignition in scoring with four points scoring a pair of two-point goals, both assisted by 2005-06 League assist leader Carlos Farias, in the loss. The defeat established the expansion club's first-ever two-game losing streak and first loss to the Philadelphia KiXX.
BLAST 11, IGNITION 5 (11-17-06) - In a contest far closer than the final score made it appear, the Ignition fell, 11-5, to the defending Major Indoor Soccer League Champion Baltimore Blast in the second of six matches between the two clubs this season. A defensive battle that came down to the last two minutes of play when veteran Blast midfielder Robbie Aristodemo tallied an empty net thee-point goal, the first against Detroit this season, to give Baltimore the six-point advantage at 13:35 of the final frame of play and the victory. Jamar Beasley fought hard for Detroit and brought the Ignition to within one, with the only goal of the second frame, putting a long three-point goal into the upper corner to cut the Blast lead to just 6-5 at halftime. The effort was just not enough following a scoreless third quarter, where the Blast extended their lead to 8-5 with a two-point goal off the left foot of Millwood, his fourth point of the night, 4:12 into the final frame of play and the empty net three-point goal by Robbie Aristodemo that sealed the victory for Baltimore.
This Week
The Saturday, December 2, meeting with the Chicago Storm marks the two club's first head-to-head contest and first of six matches during the 2006-07 season. The Storm (3-1) won 12-10 in overtime over the Milwaukee Wave (1-3) on November 26 giving the club their best start in team history and placing them atop the Major Indoor Soccer League Table. The Storm will be hosting Detroit this Saturday after taking home two out of the three MISL Weekly Awards. Storm netminder, and former Ignition 2006 Expansion Draft selection, Jim Larkin was recognized as MISL Goalkeeper of the Week for his 14-save (seven in the third quarter alone) performance against the Milwaukee Wave. Rookie defender Chris Brisson was named the League's Defender of the Week after burying the game-winning goal, the first of his career, for the Storm on Sunday. The two clubs met during the MISL Preseason Tournament in Chicago and played to a 9-9 tie on October 28.
When the California Cougars head to Compuware Sports Arena on Sunday, December 3, it will be a matchup between the Major Indoor Soccer League's two newest member clubs. The Cougars, in their second season, have started the year with a 2-2 record after going 10-20 (.333) in the 2005-06 campaign and look to find success in this week's match with the Ignition. The first 2,000 fans to attend the first-ever matchup between these two young franchises will receive an Ignition water bottle courtesy of the Henry Ford Medical Group, the Official Team Physicians of the Detroit Ignition. The Cougars will enter Compuware Sports Arena led by 2005-06 League Rookie-of-the-Year Vincente Figueroa, who sits atop the MISL's PUMA Scoring Champions leaderboard with 16 points
