IceDogs Lose Nail Biter 4-3 in Barrie

October 24, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs lost a nail biter 4-3 to the Barrie Colts in Barrie on Thursday night.

Starting goaltenders Christopher Festarini and Mackenzie Blackwood were the story in the first period, with both sides being held scoreless, as the IceDogs outshot Barrie 11-8.

The second period would see Barrie open the scoring, striking on the powerplay to make it a 1-0 game. The IceDogs undetered would answer right back, as Jordan Maletta would score only 1:42 after Barrie opened the scoring to make it a 1-1 game. The scoring would continue, as Barrie would retake the lead just over three minutes later, only to have Anthony DiFruscia answer back by putting one home in front on a 5-on-3 powerplay to make it a 2-2 game. The IceDogs powerplay would strike again with three minutes left in the second period as Eric Ming would continue his strong play since coming to Niagara, scoring to give the visitors a 3-2 lead. The IceDogs would carry that same 3-2 lead into the intermission as they continued to outshoot Barrie 23-20.

Unfortunately for the IceDogs, the 3-2 lead would not last, as Barrie would score twice in a span of a little under five minutes to take a 4-3 lead at the midpoint of the third. The IceDogs would look for the equalizer and have some near misses, but it wasn't meant to be, as they fell 4-3. Final shots were even at 33-33.

The IceDogs will now head back to St. Catharines where they will play host to the visiting Peterborough Petes for their annual Halloween game! Fans are encouraged to wear their costume, as the IceDogs will have goodie bags for the first 250 children in attendance, and will be holding the annual costume parade during the intermission! There are still a limited number of seats and standing room available for tomorrow's game, so get your tickets now and come join us for what is always a fun night!
