Ice set off on four-game road stretch
WEEKEND RE-CAP: The Ice went 1-0-1 over the weekend in a two-game home series against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Friday: Indiana sailed to a 6-3 win paced by John Kemp and Garrett Roe who combined to score seven points (3G, 4A) in the victory. The Ice scored in every way possible in the game with a shorthanded, power play, empty net, extra attacker, and even strength goal. Saturday: The Ice came from behind to send the game to overtime with a late third period goal, but Cedar Rapids earned the victory in the shootout 4-3. Garrett Roe and Eric Kattelus had a goal and an assist each and goaltender Alex Kangas recorded 31 saves in the contest.
KEEP ON ROE'ING: Ice forward Garrett Roe was hot enough to melt the ice over the weekend in the two-game series with Cedar Rapids posting five points on three goals and two assists. Roe has been hard for the opposition to handle over the last nine games scoring an impressive 16 points (6G,10A) over the span. He currently leads the Ice in scoring with 49 points on the season and is tied for fifth in the league in the category.
CENTURY CLUB: John Kemp joined the Ice "Century Club" in Friday night's victory over Cedar Rapids with a four point outburst (1G, 3A). The forward scored his 100th career point on a third period power play goal with less than two minutes left in the game. Kemp, the USHL's top returning scorer from last season, joins teammate Garrett Roe (123 points) as the only two Indiana Ice players to record 100 career points in an Ice uniform.
HOMEWARD BOUND: Goaltender Alex Kangas returns to Sioux Falls, IA for the first time since being traded to Indiana prior to the 2006 USHL Draft to take on his former team in a two-game weekend series at Sioux Falls Arena. Kangas starred with the Stampede last season where he posted a 20-6-3 record courtesy of a 2.15 GAA and .930 save percentage as Sioux Falls made it all the way to the Clark Cup Finals. Kangas is 2-0-0 against the Stampede this season with victories in a pair of home games back in December.
